About LEAF Organization
(Learning, Environment, Agriculture, and Forestry Organization)
Our Story
LEAF Organization was founded in response to the growing climate crisis affecting South Sudan. As one of the world's most vulnerable nations to climate change, South Sudan faces severe challenges including deforestation, desertification, flooding, and food insecurity.
We recognized the urgent need for community-led solutions that combine environmental conservation with livelihood improvement. Our approach focuses on empowering local communities, particularly youth and women, with the knowledge and tools to become agents of change.
Through partnerships with communities, government agencies, and international organizations, we work towards a sustainable future where people and nature thrive together.

📍 Where We Work
LEAF works across South Sudan, focusing on four core pillars:
🌱 Education | 🌿 Environment | 🌾 Agriculture | 🌳 Forestry
👉 Climate Action is embedded throughout all our programs.
🌱 Our Theory of Change
We believe that lasting climate solutions start with informed and empowered communities.
If we:
1. Promote quality education for climate awareness and sustainability
2. Promote climate-smart agriculture to improve productivity and resilience
3. Champion environmental protection through advocacy and community engagement
4. Preserve and restore forests to enhance biodiversity and carbon sequestration
5. Raise climate action awareness at the grassroots level
Then:
➝ Communities will gain the knowledge, skills, and tools to make environmentally responsible decisions.
➝ Food systems will become more resilient to climate shocks and variability.
➝ Communities will be better equipped to mitigate and adapt to the impacts of climate change.
Ultimately, this will lead to:
🌿 Greener, climate-resilient lives where people and nature thrive together in balance, without one harming another or vice versa.
Climate Change in South Sudan
South Sudan is experiencing the severe impacts of climate change, including:
➝ Prolonged droughts affecting agriculture and water availability
➝ Severe flooding displacing communities and destroying livelihoods
➝ Rapid deforestation for charcoal and timber
➝ Declining agricultural productivity and food insecurity
➝ Loss of biodiversity and ecosystem services
These challenges require urgent action and community-based solutions. LEAF Organization works at the frontlines to build resilience, restore ecosystems, and empower communities to adapt to and mitigate climate change impacts.
